Block: Maple
Ink: Oil based, 6 colors,
mixes
Paper: Magnani Pescia Blue
Process: Reduction. I tried a couple of new techniques, one was
to print "softly" with the first layers being the softest and gradually
achieving more precision. The last state was the only one printed with
a press. The other technique was to really over-ink in order to achieve
a degree of relief and "chunking" of the ink in places. The effect is truly
sculptural and rough, like the sandstone formations themselves.
Image: Night in the desert summer brings no
relief from the heat, temperatures stay in the 100's well past dark. The
only relief comes from the cool waters of the lake below, lapping at the
hot sandstone beaches and beckoning the hiker to find respite in the dark
coves.
