Original Wood Engraving - Traveling, Heading Home... Out of the Rain
(Out of the Rain)
2000 Wood Engraving
Block: End-grain maple
Paper: BFK Lightweight White
Image: I was coming home from the Northwest last year after a week or so vacation--in the rain! Misty and beautiful, but depressing to a sun worshiper like me. On the way back, just hitting the Northern Nevada border on a back road through the pines, I knew I was near the desert when I spotted in the distance the clearing sky, the naked mountains, the welcoming sun of the desertlands.
Process: Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil.
