Desert Rooster
Chinese Lunar New Year Print 2005
Wood Engraving
Approximately Paper 9" x 7"
Image 7" x 5"
Edition 220
Block: End-grain maple
Ink: Black mix
Paper: Beechgrove Paperworks Hand-made (clay/tan smoothies) or Parchment
Process: Wood engraving
Image: Every Chinese Lunar New Year, a bunch of printmakers exchange New Year's "Cards". This 2005 was the Year of the Rooster and so I chose the infamous Desert Rooster (roadrunner...beep beep!).
Add a mat and receive ready to frame or add a frame and receive your beautiful print ready to hang! Double mat in the size specified. Frames are modern aluminum in black or bronze to complement print.
Process: Wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually end grain maple in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil. Signed Numbered Wood engraving Limited edition Nature Traditional 12 to 36 in
