Baile del Sol
Woodcut
31" x 23"
Edition 100
Block: Cherry
Ink: Black/Red with pearl pigment
Paper: Banana bark GOLD
Process: Paper is very thick with pieces of bark embedded, when damp it embosses beautifully. You can actually "feel" this print in relief.
Image: I usually work to the sounds of noveau flamenco, heavy on the guitar. I like upbeat music without words and feel that in music, as in art, words interfere with the experience. I wanted to capture the sensuous flow and pulsating beat of the flamenco music, an art ancient as the woodcuts. This is the second of the series.
Process: Woodcuts are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil. Signed Numbered Matted Framed Woodcut Limited edition Figures Surrealism 12 to 36 in
