Process: Engraving, sketched and cut while sitting at an art-fair.
Image: An impending road-trip fills my head with road images. Getting out early is imperative in the heat; by 9:00 am temperatures on the road can reach into the 120's. In the morning, the desert shimmers with the scant light. Later it will shimmer again, but due to the distortion from the hot air. An early start is the only way to safely get out of the Las Vegas valley, as evidenced by the variety of vehicles stranded and strewn by the sides of the road.

Process: Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
