Comments: Last summer I had a visitor in my garden, seemingly enjoying my company as much as I enjoyed this marvel of nature. We sat close by bathing in the sun and while I merely soaked in the sunlight, this marvel of nature appeared to diffuse the light with its wings. Twice I approached quietly with my hand and twice it amazingly left a branch to explore my fingers with its delicate light touch. I smiled and I swear it looked like it smiled back.

Process: Wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually end grain maple in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
