How To Make a Desert: Step 1
Wood Engraving
5" x 7"

Block: End-grain maple
Ink: Mix of umber
Paper: Stonehenge
Process: Engraving, sketched and cut while sitting at an art-fair
Image: While driving out in the desert I get to daydreaming (don't worry, I never cross the center lane) about how the desert was made. The canyons appear carved by a gentle scraping hand, parting mountains and softening valleys in between. This is one theory?!

MATTING OR FRAMING
Many collectors often prefer works on paper unmatted and unframed. You will receive your new artwork unmatted/unframed, in an acid-free clear bag well protected against dust and fingerprints and suitable for long-term storage.

Our studio is fully equipped to professionally mat and frame works on paper. If you would prefer to receive your artwork matted, ready to frame, or framed, ready to hang, please choose that option at the time of purchase.
All materials used in matting and framing are acid-free archival quality.

Process: Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.

All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil.
