Process: I covered the block with dark umber ink and started drawing straight with the the kinves and chisels. The grain of the wood played a big part on where I placed my models.
Image: I wanted to achieve a sense of movement, akin to how I feel when listening to my favorite flamenco tunes. My husband calls these type of woodcuts "swirlie, swirlie."

Process: Woodcuts are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
