Agaves, 2000
Woodcut Print
7 x 2.5 in
Edition 200
Block: Cherrywood
Ink: Black
Paper: Bangla-Desh handmade
Process: Sketched on the field
Image: After Silent Night, one of my first prints in memory of Cisco, a 17 year old mutt companion on many hikes. The agaves of the Southwest can grow their typical shoots in a few spring days, as the desert only allows a small window of time for the hardy plant to reproduce.
Red Cliffs, 2000
Woodcut Print
7 x 2.5 in
Edition 200
Block: Cherrywood
Ink: Black/Purple
Paper: Murillo Chestnut
Process: Sketched on the field
Image: Drawn from memory; I'm sure this canyon exists somewhere down the Colorado River, I just don't know where it is. I often take blocks with me when hiking and I take plenty of photos, but my favorite manner of working is to draw straight on the block from memory. I usually use an ink brush and sumi ink with a loose approach to eliminate detail and concentrate on the honesty of the black and white woodcut. Signed Numbered Woodcut Limited edition Landscape Traditional 6 to 12 in
