2003 Woodcut On Beech Grove Paperworks Pink Clay Paper
16"x12"
Edition: 50

Block: Basswood
Ink: Black mix
Paper: Beech Grove Paperworks handmade pink clay
Process: Standard woodcut cut while on site
Image: I went to the Valley of Fire with two blocks and decided to sketch and cut on scene. The soft basswood allows me to draw with my tools rapidly and the result is fresher than my studio woodcuts. This road winds into the bowels of the park, a road that used to be dirt and a long walk, now a happy two-lane...always a sad feeling when access, once the exclusive property of the hiker, is given to the automobile.

Process:
Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.

All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil by the artist.
Sold in pristine/never framed condition (sold unmatted/unframed).
Designed, cut and hand-printed by the artist
