Classic Model Poses in Natural Settings
Maria Arango Original Woodcuts
Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist
In pristine/never framed condition (sold unmatted/unframed)
Designed, cut and hand-printed by the artist
ALL MATERIALS ARCHIVAL QUALITY AND PERMANENT
Struck
Woodcut
30" x 22"
Edition 50
Block: Baltic Birch
Ink: Black
Paper: Canson White or Stonehenge White
Process: Straight forward woodcut. I enjoyed going back to the pure black and white. The texture of the paper makes the background shimmer where ink allows the paper to shine through.
Image: My father had a stroke a while back and I have had this image of a beaten man since then, helpless in a storm, hanging on to nothing. His tragedy inspired me to enjoy every day as if it were the last, squeeze every minute and worship the present as if there were to be no tomorrow.
Process: Woodcuts are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
